Patricia Díaz and Vicente Hernández, Canary Islands champions

Vicente Hernández, from Tenerife with a record for the Madrid team Diablillos de Rivas, and the Gran Canaria from Club Titanes de Lanzarote Patricia Díaz were proclaimed this weekend champions of the Canary Islands and absolute winners of the XX Real Club Náutico de Arrecife Triathlon, sprint modality, which had place in the Parque Islas Canarias, the beach of the redoubt and the Maritime avenue of the capital of Lanzarote under the organization of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife de Lanzarote.

The test had 192 registered participants between men and women, finishing 169. Sunny day, somewhat hot, which did not prevent the public from witnessing this summer triathlon event, encouraging the participants at all times.

The male category was quite close. The protagonists were the people of Tenerife, who placed five men in the top positions at the end. The start, staggered, took place at Playa del Reducto, with the women starting first, then the veterans, and finally the seniors, and the remaining categories, who would have to swim 750 meters, until close to the RCNA. The best time in this section was that of Daniel Sánchez from Gran Canaria and in women, Delioma González.

Subsequent exit from the water, to take the bike in the pit area, and start the 20 km. of a circuit that had to be done twice, with Gabriel Alemán (Tricán) from Gran Canaria setting the best time. The last segment of 10 km would be reached, the one with accumulated fatigue in the legs, along Avenida Marítima, where little by little Vicente Hernández was hunting down his rivals. It would be the last lap that would define the final positions and allow the victory of Vicente Hernández.
