Pontevedra bets on duathlon and multisport

She has presented herself as a candidate for the 2016 Duathlon World Championship and the ITU Multisport Festival

The city of Pontevedra yesterday hosted a meeting between the mayor of the Galician town, Miguel Anxo Fernández Lores and the highest representatives of the national and international triathlon to address the development of future sports projects, after the organizational success and participation of the past World Duathlon 2014.

Marisol Casado, president of the International Triathlon Union (ITU), was also present with Fernández Lores; José Hidalgo, president of the Spanish Triathlon Federation (FETRI) and Óscar José Surís, president of the Galician Federation of Triathlon.

The mayor showed his interest to organize competitions of maximum international level and postulated the candidacy of Pontevedra to return to celebrate the World Championship of Duathlon in 2016.

During the meeting, other projects that could lead to the city of Lérez were also studied. multisport festival (a new format promoted by the ITU, to host in the same venue world championships of aquatlon, triathlon cros and long distance triathlon, among other modalities), in the coming years.

Marisol Casado thanked the city for its commitment to our sport, congratulating Pontevedra for the organizational success of the past Duathlon World Championship. An event in which records of participation were broken and in which the dedication and effort of the Galician town contributed significantly to the optimal development of this important international event.

For José Hidalgo, president of the FETRI, "Pontevedra is a world leader in the organization of sports competitions, and especially in the case of our sport. It is a city that breathes sports, turns with it, offering the best scenarios, its hospitality, enthusiasm and energy, and for athletes it is a unique and unforgettable venue ". Hidalgo wanted to emphasize that "the bet is constant and mutual, and therefore at the end of next June it will become the headquarters of the Spanish Sprint and Acuatlon Triathlon Championships, two of the most significant events of our calendar".

Also, the president of the FETRI said that Pontevedra will be one of the five venues that will host one of the events of YOSITRI, the new popular triathlon circuit that will start this season. In addition, work is also being done to incorporate the city of Lérez as one of the qualifiers for the Spanish Elite Triathlon Championship that will be announced in the near future.

For his part, the president of the Galician Federation wanted to thank the involvement of the Municipality of Pontevedra with the triathlon, while also indicating his desire to continue walking hand in hand with the support of the FEGATRI in the celebration of competitions at the highest level international.
