The countdown begins for the Triathlon Vitoria-Gasteiz, official presentation of the test

Triathlon Vitoria-Gasteiz 2018 will take place next July 8 in the capital of Alava.

The act of presenting the Vitoria-Gasteiz Triathlon held yesterday at the Montehermoso Palace was attended by the main sponsors: the mayor of Vitoria-Gasteiz Gorka Urtaran, the deputy general of Araba Ramiro González, the director of sports of the Basque Government Jon Redondo, the president of Fundación Vital Jon Urresti and Eduardo Martínez, director of the event.

In the words of Mayor of the city, Gorka Urtaran "It is an immense joy to be able to receive the Triathlon Vitoria-Gasteiz for another year as it responds to the sport-city symbiosis that is experienced in Vitoria-Gasteiz". Urtaran believes that Vitoria-Gasteiz is becoming a sporting capital, "and events like TriVitoria certainly help."

Jon Redondo, director of sports of the Basque Government, wanted to put in value the collaboration of the institutions in the organization of various sporting events being the Triathlon "an example of this collaboration". Redondo highlights the ability of the Triathlon to put "a town as small as ours" into the global focus, and wanted to thank the organization for its efforts to encourage physical activity, counting on it, with the presence of referent athletes.

In addition to the capital for the development of Triathlon Vitoria-Gasteiz, it is important to take into account the municipalities of the Alava plains that are part of the circuit. Thus, Ramiro González, Deputy General of the territory, has defined Araba "as a great sports facility" and has highlighted the importance of the collaboration of the institutions to create events that put Álava on the world stage, since "you can not express better the beauty of Araba than seeing the images of the Triathlon ".

TriVitoria has become the benchmark sports event, mobilizing 2.598 athletes from 37 countries and 50 provinces of the State. Also, around 1.500 people they are mobilized to work in the Triathlon, among them around 600 volunteers that are involved in the development of a test already consolidated in the international sports scene.

The director of TriVitoria, Eduardo Martínez , has highlighted the internationality of the event, being France, England and Portugal the countries that give more athletes to the test "and, as a curiosity, we have 4 Australians who are the triathletes who come from the furthest point of Vitoria-Gasteiz, at about 17.000 kilometers". Likewise, he highlighted "the complete hotel occupancy throughout the Alavese territory being today almost impossible to find a room during the weekend that the Triathlon is held." The figure of Estimated overnight stays is from 22.770  from Wednesday 5 to Monday 9 of July.

The act has served to present "Women and Triathlonan initiative launched within the framework of TriVitoria through which it is intended to encourage women athletes to practice long distance triathlon, with a view to increasing female participation in future TriVitorias. In a joint bet with the Vital Foundation, Jon Urresti, president of the entity, says that "the joint challenge of Trivitoria and the Vital Foundation is to triple female participation in Triathlon Vitoria-Gasteiz in the short-medium term".

In addition to the undoubted sporting value of the event, Triathlon Vitoria-Gasteiz is a city event that represents a important economic impact for Vitoria that is calculated this year in 7. 134.951 €. Therefore, illustrious Alava personalities from the world of sports, culture or companies such as Pepe Barreira, Manu García, Maider Unda, Karmele Jaio, Pilar Ruiz de Larrea or Joseba Beloki have joined the support of TriVitoria
