Rubén Ruzafa he was facing his room XTERRA World Championship as the man to beat. The malagueño arrived in Maui with fifteen consecutive international victories and having won all the previous XTERRA World Championships in which he had taken the start. 

If he managed to win, he would equal the record of four victories and remain unbeaten in an XTERRA World Championship. 

The competition started normally, with Ruzafa among the top fifteen swimmers, reaching T1 2'40 "behind the leaders. Halfway through the mountain bike segment, he had reached the head and was starting to run with a 1'45 advantage. ". 

“I would have liked to swim better, so I knew I had to do my best on the bike section. I started to recover time, especially in the technical sections, until I was at the forefront of the test. I had good feelings, not the best, but I was going first and things were going as planned. "

Suddenly everything changed. The defending champion began to lose time rapidly during the race. Ruzafa was in distress, completely empty and unable to keep up! He had kept silent that a week before the XTERRA World Championship he had some fever and took antibiotics, his body could be accusing him.

"I exploded! I had no rhythm, so I had to put one with which I could reach the goal. I suffered until the last stride, achieving a tight third place. "

Despite the tough day, Ruzafa had another sensational result, taking another podium at XTERRA. In fact, he's never gotten off one!

"I am satisfied with my performance, how I handled the situation and gave everything to reach the goal in the best possible position. Now it's time to rest, start thinking about next season and enjoy what I have achieved."
