A new edition of the traditional International Triathlon of Portocolom (Mallorca), the eighteenth, officially starts with the opening of the registration period and with the announcement that there will be a total of 4.000 € cash prizes for the winners.
The Portocolom Triathlon, one of the best rated on the national scene, will be held next 12 April 2015, and the registrations are open for the two tests, both the 55.5 kilometers and the 111. In the last edition they took part in the competition over 700 triathletes, and in 2015 it will be one of the first medium distance triathlons in Europe.
For the eighteenth year, Portocolom will host its international middle-distance triathlon over the attractive distances of 55.5 and 111 (1 kilometer of swimming, 100 of cycling and 10 of running), which is season after season one of the first in the calendar throughout Europe, which will bring together almost a thousand triathletes between the two events, with the addition of boys and girls to participate in the previous TriKids on Saturday 11 April.
Among the highlights of the International Triathlon of Portocolom 2015 is the economic prize of 4.000 € to be distributed among the top three women's and men's overall, both in the 55.5 and 111 format (1 kilometer of swimming, 100 cycling and 10 of foot race).
The Portocolom triathlon will once again be one of the first of the year, on April 12, and will bring together triathletes of up to twenty different nationalities, with the Germans, Austrians and British standing out in number, who will take advantage of the opportunity to spend several days in Mallorca to fine-tune their physical preparation for other subsequent competitions. Once again, the double and demanding climb in bike to Sant Salvador, will be the great challenge to be overcome by the participants.
The two tests on 111 and 55.5 km will take the triathletes to the same and valued routes than in previous years. Those registered to the 111 will have to give two laps to the cycling circuit while those of the 55.5 will only give one, climbing only once the 494 meters of Sant Salvador. Swimming will once again be in the crystal clear waters of Club Nautic de Portocolom, while the final walking race of 5 or 10 km will have the goal in the heart of this unique Mediterranean town.
In the last edition, the sport level was exceptional with triathletes of the likes of Markus Hörmann or Florian Kriegl and with a very powerful female team with Eimear Mullan, Eva Wutti, Gajer, Diana Riesler, Susan Blatt ... There were also famous faces competing in Portocolom, as former professional cyclist Marcel Wust and Formula 1 driver Pedro Martinez de la Rosa, who competed in relays doing the 100 km of cycling with his brothers, or former pilot Alex Wurz.
In addition to the two events, in which you can also compete for relay teams, there will also be a duathlon for minors (TriKids) on Saturday 11 in April.
The Portocolom Triathlon is organized by Kumulus Mallorca and the Club Triatló Portocolom, with the support of the Felanitx City Council.
