250 clubs participated in the TriWhite Benidorm

Benidorm was the stage this Sunday of the first of the seven tests of the TriWhite Cup 2015 by Lurbel, the most important and popular triathlon circuit in the Mediterranean with venues in three autonomous communities (Comunidad Valenciana, Región de Murcia and Andalucía).

The first test was a success both because of the very high competitive level of all the participants and because of the large audience that, animated by the summer weather, has followed the competition live from different points of the city.

The first winners of the season have been Omar López, Triathlete of the Arcos Triathlon of Albacete, and Sara Van der Vel, winners in the masculine and feminine category, respectively, in the Olympic category, the queen test.

Omar López, winner of the Sprint circuit last year, managed to reach the finish line first after an exciting test in which he shared the lead during several phases of the race with his teammate Miguel Ángel Sánchez, the Almería-born Rafa Lao (La Dulce Alianza), and with the Barcelonan Oriol Marimón (CERRR Igualada). The manchego has managed to take advantage in the last kilometers of the test to win the victory ahead of Oriol Marimón, second to 37 seconds of Lopez, and Rafa Lao, third to 2: 36 of the winner.

In the female category, the superiority of Sara Van del Vel has been overwhelming since the competition swimming in the waters of Poniente beach. Kilometer by kilometer the triathlete has been increasing their differences to reach the finish line with more than seven minutes ahead of the second classified, Maria Mendive (Bpxport Kirol Kluba), and twelve on Inge Van de Broeck, third.

The Sprint test has been much more competitive. Álvaro López, brother of Omar, winner of the Olympic category, has dominated part of the competition, although in the end he has yielded in the race on foot before the push of the most veteran riders. The final victory was for Jordi Pascual Sales (Diablillos de Rivas) with a time of 01: 03: 38, escorted in the goal by Roin Van Heel (CT Moncada) to something less than a minute and by Álvaro López (Arcos Albacete) .

In women's Sprint, triumph adjusted for Mercedes Carmona (Enforma San Agustín de Guadalix) with a time of 01: 20: 18, beating just one minute to the independent runner Marta Noelia Lluch and one and a half to Maria Piquer (Finisher).

In Super Sprint there were no surprises and Hurricane Valencia triathlete Sergio Baxter, winner of this category last year, won the Benidorm finish with a 37: 43 brand. Diego Soler (Ontinyent) and Luis Santos (Adesavi) escorted the young champion from Murcia on the podium.

Ana Belén Maruny (Arena Alicante) won in Super Sprint with a time of 43: 12, followed by Ángela Ojeda and her teammate Paula Chafer.

At the conclusion of the tests, Miguel Llorca, councilman of the Benidorm City Council, Juan Ramón Martínez, mayor of Deportes, Jaime Samper, president of the Benidorm Swimming Club, and several representatives of the Valencian Triathlon Federation have handed out the trophies to the three best classified in each of the categories.
