We solve the doubts of the new FETRI Regulation

We interview Jorge García, Director of FETRI Competitions for the change of regulation

Recently, the change of regulations announced by the FETRI, that is why from Triathlon News we wanted to do an interview with Jorge Garcia, Director of Competitions of the Spanish Triathlon Federation to clarify some doubts that the new regulation has provoked

.

What is the purpose of the regulation change?

The objective of the FETRI is to adapt to the ITU technical rules.

Will this new regulation be mandatory for all tests in Spain? Or it only affects the ETU, ITU, FETRI competitions?

The FETRI Competition Regulations are applicable to federated official competitions at the national level and to those that refer to said regulations.

Many triathletes are wondering if they can continue using the material purchased in the GGEE tests. Could you explain more in detail the regulations of the couplings to be used in Olympic and medium / long distance?

The coupling takes several years to debate, and finally it has been decided that its use in competitions with drafting is only for competitions considered as elite; and for that purpose, it is only applicable in the elite Spanish Championships with drafting allowed.

In the rest of competitions the coupling is not allowed. What has been transmitted to the different Autonomous Federations through the Autonomous Committees of Officers, is that it is a gradual implementation

All competitions WITH DRAFTING that take place in Spain, except the ELITE Spanish Championships, are not allowed to be fitted. This causes doubts since some competitions call them ELITE, when they are not, they will be ELITE according to the rules of the test not of the Federation.

Regulation of FETRI Competitions

And on the subject of wheels, what changes are the most important?

On the issue of wheels there is no significant change, only the minimum number of radios in competitions with drafting allowed

And on the subject of drafting. Any modification?

The most important change is the harmonization of standards with Ironman. The Technical Committee of the ITU after its December 2013 meeting, assessed the differences between Ironman and ITU; and from there there was a meeting in the summer of 2014 between both entities, where a regulation harmonization document was elaborated. I think it's a big step for the application of drafting standards to be homogeneous regardless of the type of competition.

The most important change is the implementation of the blue card to sanction the drafting, and that the athlete has to stop in the penalty area

What do you think is the most important change of all?

Really, there are no big changes, but without a doubt, for me the important advance is the harmonization of the rules around the drafting

What will be in your opinion the evolution of triathlon? Where will we get?

There is no doubt that it is a sport on the rise, but that growth can not make us lose the reference and try to walk in the correct line
