The UCI gives the OK to test the disc brakes in competition

World Tour teams will be able to use them in two races during this season, in the month of August and September, installing them if all goes well in 2017.

 

 

La UCI announced this week unlocking the use of disc brakes in professional cycling, great news for the cycling industry. These changes will also be reflected in the triathlon where we can see professionals with this type of brakes on their bicycles.

This year will be the first where the professional teams of the World Tour will try disc brakes in competitions in two tests, and during 2016, if all goes well, they will be permanently installed in 2017

Brian Cookson, president of the UCI, explained that "disc brakes have been used for more than a decade in mountain biking and during the last two years in cyclo-cross. Its implementation in road cycling must be studied carefullye in collaboration with all interested parties. That includes runners, equipment and manufacturers. This step is part of the UCI's desire to promote innovation in the cyclor with the intention of making it more attractive for spectators, runners, bicycle users and the media. "
