A hell of 708 kilometers to overcome the Titan Desert by GARMIN 2014

The ninth edition of the Titan Desert by GARMIN, one of the 'mountain bike' tests by more extreme stages of the international calendar, will be the hardest in its history with a total of 708 kilometers divided into six stages. The race is held from 27 from April to 2 in May in Morocco.

In the absence of less than a month for the start of the race, the next 27 in April, the organization has made official the tour of the Titan Desert by GARMIN 2014, which stands out for its variety and length, since it will be the longest edition of its history and will have as scenarios the Atlas Mountains and the dunes of the Moroccan desert, with the mythical pass of the Erg Chebbi.

The Titan squad, with more than 425 participants, will discover for the first time the spectacular Jaffar Circus, located in the High Atlas, a gorge with an unprecedented landscape in the race that will make all the 'bikers' enjoy with some beautiful tracks and of great hardness.

The mountain stages will be concentrated the first two days (Midelt-Midelt and Midelt-Gourrama) with a cumulative difference in altitude above the 2.000 meters in these first two days and a high possibility of low temperatures. In addition, the second stage will be the beginning of the marathon stage, where mechanical assists and physiotherapists are not allowed.

From the third day (Gourrama - Boudnib) the race rediscovers the Moroccan desert, crossing oueds, chots and stony tracks that will make it difficult for the participants to pedal. Always heading south, the Titan Desert by GARMIN will return to the heat - maximum 45 degrees can be reached - and to the desert with stage 4 (Boudnib - Erg Chebbi) and will visit the fearsome dunes, located in stage 5 ( Erg Chebbi - Merzouga).

Precisely in the 5 stage the great novelty of the present edition will take place, with the Garmin Pass, a section without flechar in which the use of the GPS and the compass will be vital to orient itself by the desert. The first three cyclists who pass through this step will get a bonus of 90, 60 and 30 seconds respectively in the general classification.

Overcome all these adversities, the 'Titan' will put the end to the race with the shortest stage, the sixth, of about 70 kilometers (Merzouga - Maadid). A tribute to all those who manage to finish the hard days in Morocco.

Undoubtedly, the longest and toughest edition in the history of the Titan Desert by GARMIN, which will gather more than 425 'bikers' willing to achieve their dream of finishing this epic race.

Juanito Oiarzabal, from the conquest of the 14 ochomiles to the desert dunes

Among the participants, we find illustrious names that will take part in the departure of Midelt. One of the most outstanding is the mountaineer Juanito Oiarzabal, who will be part of the GARMIN team.

Juanito Oiarzabal is the sixth man in the world who managed to reach the 14 peaks of more than eight thousand meters, but he is also the third one that achieved it without the use of artificial oxygen. He currently has 26 ochomiles to his credit, for which he holds the global "record" of ascents to these mountains.

One of the most internationally renowned mountaineers, and now, thanks to the GARMIN team, will be able to challenge the desert. A total change of scenery for someone so used to snow and the 'eight-thousanders'. His big challenge will be to finish this hard edition that he expects at 2014.

'Juanito' will be part of the GARMIN team together with another great adventurer, the Asturian Juan "Sin Miedo" Menéndez, who a few weeks ago was the first man to arrive alone and without help to the South Pole by bicycle.
