In 2009 he retired from professional cycling due to a heart problem
Nicolas Portal began his career in 2002 with the AG2R team. Then he went to Caisse d'Epargne, the one who was a companion of the Spaniard Alejandro Valverde, and later to the Sky. In 2009 he ended his career prematurely due to a heart problem.
