Kilian Jornet calls for tougher penalties for cyclists who litter on the road

He wants to change the mentality in cycling races and that nature does not get dirty

The media ultra long distance runner Kilian Jornet, has published on his Twitter account a series of comments indicating that it would be ideal to take measures to prevent cyclists from going during the competition throwing gels, wrappers o drums.

Has asked to be increase penalties for cyclists who engage in this type of behavior

He also comments that it might be a good idea that brands will include a pocket for waste in the equitations worn by athletes.

"That we applaud or show when the athletes do not throw the garbage on the ground is a sample of the work that still needs to be done"

" If every time a competitor throws a wrapper, a second is added or disqualified, no runner would do it.

According to Jornet, the current sanctions and recommendations for the grand tours are not enough.

"At the regulatory level, almost all sports contain points about not littering. The problem is that the sanctions are laughable or not applied.

If each time a competitor throws a wrapper a second is added or he is disqualified, no runner would do it.

It is undoubtedly a bad behavior of the competitor, but the responsibility is also on the federations to be stricter, on the sponsors to not tolerate these attitudes and to the brands to think about how to keep garbage as part of the performance”he commented.

Kilian wears a special garment to store the containers

Kilian, leading by example, has shown on his social networks that he wears a garment to save what he consumes in his training or competitions.

" If a jersey or running pants have a pocket designed for gels and bars, why don't they have another for their packaging?

A pocket with some protection so that it is not sticky for example ... This would facilitate better behaviors".

To this last proposal the exclicist responded  Haimar Zubeldia publishing a photograph with an alternative to keep the waste in the jersey until reaching the finish line.
