The DGT lowers the speed on the roads with the most circulation of bicycles

This measure is already in force at the N-340 between Nules and Oropesa, in the province of Castellón, where the restriction will also be maintained this year.

According to the EFE agency, the DGT will limit the speed of cars and heavy vehicles on the roads and in the days and hours of greatest influx of cyclists, and will restrict the circulation of certain trucks on conventional roads with more traffic and high accidents, provided that there is a better alternative.

These are some of the special traffic regulation measures that the new DGT team, led by Gregorio Serrano, will implement this year and which will complement another package of urgent decisions that this general directorate is preparing to reduce the number of accidents.

To favor the coexistence in better road safety conditions of cyclists and light and heavy vehicles, Trafico will limit the maximum speed in those days and hours of greatest presence of cyclists, as reported in a statement. These sections will be specifically marked to indicate this circumstance and the list can be seen on the Traffic website, where it is periodically updated as new sections are incorporated.

Due to the intrinsic danger caused by the confluence of heavy and light vehicles on conventional roads with high traffic and accidents, when there is an alternative road with a greater capacity and better layout, the passage of trucks through these specific sections will be restricted, through the so-called black spots .

A measure that has already begun to be applied in the N-340 between Nules and Oropesa, in the province of Castellón, where the restriction will also be maintained this year.

It is nothing more than "the first step in the set of urgent measures" that the DGT is preparing, which has wanted them to start operating as soon as possible, "with no more time to lose," Serrano stresses.

As a complement to the national calendar of sports events planned for 2017 that are held on roads, Traffic has established certain dates and routes that by the high intensity of traffic they support they will not be able to host sports events, cyclists marches or other events.

Meanwhile, the high presence of vehicles in certain places of special protection (natural spaces) or on the occasion of the celebration of sporting events (great motorcycling prizes), cultural or religious, will require the adoption of special access regulation plans and management and traffic management. In this way, single directions can be established, parking is prohibited and other measures are taken to guarantee safety and the adequate flow of traffic in the surroundings of those places.

In short, a package of eight measures of traffic regulation for 2017 that has already been published in the State official newsletter (BOE) of the past 14 of January.
