Gómez Noya receives today the Gold Medal for Sports Merit

The Galician triathlete will receive the highest distinction awarded in Spain to an athlete

 

El Three-time champion of the world Javier Gómez Noya, the swimmer Mireia Belmonte, the pilots Jorge Lorenzo, Toni Bou y Laia Sanz will receive this Tuesday, among others, the Royal Order of Sports Merit (ROMD) of 2013, in an act that will be chaired by the Infanta Dona Elena at the Teatro Cofidis in Madrid starting at 11.00 hours.

 

 

In addition to the Princess Elena, the Minister of Education, Culture and Sport, José Ignacio Wert, will also be present; the president of the Superior Council of Sports (CSD), Miguel Cardenal, and the Director General of Sports of the CSD, Ana Muñoz, in addition to the award-winners and numerous personalities from the world of sports.

 

The distinctions of the Royal Order of Sports Merit in its different categories, of plates and Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals, are granted to persons or entities in recognition of their sporting successes or their contribution to the development of Spanish sport.

 

In the long list of winners are the medalists in the Olympic Games in London who had not entered the ROMD and world champions of other specialties. This is how the Gold Medal will be presented to the Olympic champions Marina Alabau (sailing) and Joel González (taekwondo) or runners-up Andrea Fuentes (synchronized swimming) and Gómez Noya.
