Javier Gómez Noya "I am sure that the Brownlees will go out and break from the beginning"

Javier Gómez Noya will return to face the Brownlee brothers at home

After the protagonism and hustle for the designation as Princess of Asturias Award on Wednesday, Javier Gómez Noya will face on Sunday in Leeds his first triathlon of the World Series in 2016. His last participation was in September in Chicago, in the final of the 2015 circuit, where he finished 2nd Mario Mola and secured the world title. Leeds is the 5th of the 9 appointments of 2016, and it is known that Gómez Noya does not aspire to defend the title but is taking all the competitions in preparation for the Olympic Games on August 18.

It will be his third 2016 triathlon, after the Dunkerke the 21 of May in Sprint distance scoring for the French League of Clubs and the European Championship that the 28 of May brilliantly won in Lisbon. Since then he has been training in Lugo, where his triathlon club, the Fluvial, is located.

Since Friday he is in Leeds, where for the first time since the last appointment of the 2014 circuit in Edmonton he will coincide with both Brownlee brothers. It is a venue that opens on the world circuit, precisely in the hometown of Alistair and Jonathan. Therefore although it is not the main objective of Gómez Noya, he faces it very motivated: "I really want to compete again in the World Series to measure against the best in the world.

It's going to be another step in my preparation for Rio and it will help me to notice how my fitness is increasing. Being the first time that the World Series is made in Leeds and being the home of the Brownlee, there will be great expectation and they will have the whole public overturned".

In addition to the British brothers, the presence of what is usually the fastest swimmer in the World Series, the Slovakian Richard Varga, guarantees that he will be at full throttle from the start. Those who, on the other hand, will not compete will be the other two Spaniards selected for the Olympic Games, who are also 1st and 2nd in the general of the World Series, Mario Mola and Fernando Alarza: "I am sure that the Brownlee are going to break from the beginning, so swimming and the start of cycling can be decisive and therefore I will have to give everything from the first strokes".

Swimming is scheduled two laps from 750m at Lake Waterloo in Roundhay Park. The 40km of cycling (specifically 41'5) are composed of a long loop around Leeds followed by 6 urban turns of about 4km. And the phase on foot, with a transition zone different from the one of swimming to cycling, will be 4 urban turns of 2'5km.
