Alberto Casillas and Verdejo win the Toroloco Triathlon of Sierra Nevada
The Extremadura Alberto Casillas, of the IMD Segovia Club, has revalidated the triumph achieved last year in the Toroloco Sierra Nevada Triathlon (Granada) and has been proclaimed champion in this test in which 150 athletes have participated.
Casillas has risen to victory even with ten minutes less that last year after completing a tough course with two kilometers of swimming, 80 in bike with two special category ports and 21 kilometres of running at an altitude of over 2.100 metres.
The Extremadura marked a time of five hours, 26 minutes and nine seconds, and took 23 minutes ahead of the second, the Malaga José Antonio Gil Díaz, of the Club Bike of Marbella, and 24 minutes to the Basque Gorka Bizkarra, of the Mugarra TT, who completed the podium.
Casillas, as in the previous edition of the Sierra Nevada Triathlon, returned to cement his victory in the bicycle sector, which marked important differences that had not occurred in the channel marsh swimming and were already irrecoverable for rivals in the section of race on foot by the summits of the station.
In females he won Verdejo, of the Granada Triathlon Club, with a time of seven hours, twelve minutes and 49 seconds, while second was the American Erin Kelly Dunn, winner last year and that arrived six minutes later, and third, with 38 minutes of delay with respect to Verdejo, the Dutch arrived Janine Herweijer
Dunn will be the only woman who along with 19 men dares with the so-called 'Toro Parrot Challenge', classification that computes the sum of times of the triathlon of today with the one of tomorrow, the short one of Sierra Nevada.
About four hundred triathletes will take the start today short triathlon, with a layout similar to today but consisting of a kilometer and a half of swimming, 40 kilometers by bicycle, with the port of Duque as the maximum difficulty, and ten kilometers of running on the slopes of the lower part of the station.
