Berasategui starts the 2012 with the Ironman of South Africa

Virginia Berasategui begins her season this weekend with an important challenge, the Ironman of South Africa. With no room for adaptation after the winter cross-country campaign, the Bilbao woman launched herself into the long distance with a clear objective: to take off the mandatory Ironman to compete in October in Hawaii, and thus be able to focus on the rest of the campaign's objectives.

Berasategui, after an autumn in which he underwent surgery to overcome his ailments caused by Morton's neuroma and a difficult winter, has held two concentrations in Fuerteventura that have helped him get ready for the first big test of 2012.
Her main rivals this weekend are the German Riesler and the British Swallow, who hopes to finish her first Ironman, since in previous attempts she had to leave when she was leading due to injuries.
The competition will take place in Hobie Beach (Port Elizabeth), over the classic distances of 3,8 kilometers for swimming, 180 for cycling and 42 for running.
After finishing the African event, Virginia Berasategui will return to the capital of Biscay, to be part of the first training sessions for the Bilbao Triathlon.
Later, he will change his registration to participate in the Titan Dessert, a MTB stage race in which he will join together with other acquaintances in the GAES team, such as Marc Coma (Dakar motorcycle champion); Roberto Heras (winner of the last editions of the Titan) and the actor Santi Millán.
After returning from Morocco, he will focus on preparing for the Bilbao Triathlon, a 70.3 in which he is confident of revalidating the success he achieved last year, and in July it appears on the horizon at the Long Distance World Cup held in Vitoria. This appointment and the Kona Ironman are his two main objectives of this campaign.
