Triumphs for Yolanda Magallón and Jon Erguin in the first round of the Spanish Winter Triathlon Cup

Last January 26 Sunday, the Triathlon Valley of Ansó awarded the first points for the newborn Spanish Cup of Triathlon of winter. Jon Erguin y Yolanda Magallón They climbed to the top of the podium in this first competition, held in the Aragonese Pyrenees.

However, the day before it became one of the most difficult days that the organization of the Winter Triathlon "Valle de Ansó" has experienced. If on Friday morning there was a circuit with a thickness of 50 centimeters of snow, and perfectly prepared to host the cross-country segment with which the test ends, the following 24 hours left more than 100 liters of water, what jeopardized the celebration of the test. The floods in the streams that cross the circuit of cross-country of Linza left him cut in many points and dammed in some zones.

After many deliberations between all the affected parties, the Town Hall of Ansó, the Pirineist Club Mayencos, the Linza Sports Club and also the two federations that had planned to celebrate their autonomy in this triathlon, the Aragonese and Madrid, decided to trust the criterion of technical team of the test, believing in its viability, and take it forward. However, the accumulated delay was considerable, so it was necessary to put all the gear to work and take advantage of all the time that was available until the time of departure. Taking advantage of the night temperature drop, we worked on recovering the areas that had lost the snow, and although the conditions were not ideal, we managed to get a circuit of something more 1200 meters, which would be four laps to complete 4,5 kilometers .

After sunrise with a splendid day, at 10 in the morning the women's category started with British punctuality. Two minutes later the men began the test. In total, 160 triathletes started this fourteenth edition of the Winter Triathlon “Valle de Ansó”, in addition to the Aragon Championship and the Madrid Championship and also the first round of the Spanish Winter Triathlon Cup and scoring for the national ranking of the modality.

Among the girls, in the race on foot, the couple formed by Soraya García Álvarez (Mountain Bike Somiedo) and Alba Xandri (Club Triatló Berga) took the lead, followed by a large group. At the end of the 7,5 km of foot race of this first segment, Soraya arrived at the transition area followed by Alba Xandri (Club Triatló Berga) and Yolanda Magallón (Transportes Sola Tarazona). In the 20 km of BTT between Ansó and Linza, Alba Xandri marked the best partial. After her Yolanda Magallón, losing almost two minutes, and little more behind Anais Tommy (Imps of Rivas).

Finally it was these three triathletes who were going to dispute the triumph. And it would be the ski segment that would make the difference. Magallón recovered the almost two and a half minutes lost on Xandri and still put him another minute, winning the race, proclaiming himself 2014 Champion of Aragón and going on to lead the Spanish Cup. The Catalan would enter second, ahead of Tommy, who in addition to being third in the test and the ranking, would also revalidaría its title of Champion of Madrid, achieved here in Ansó last year.

In the men's category it was Daniel Martínez Ibero (Saltoki Trikideak) who risked most in this segment, followed very closely by Óscar Lado (CT Diablillos de Rivas) and Miguel Ángel Casado (Diabillos de Rivas). Just behind was the big favorite, Jon Erguin (Trigoi TT). Erguin would have no problems in quickly leading the MTB segment, reaching Linza with more than 5 minutes over the second, Óscar Lado (Rivas devils). Erguin would be allowed to take more relaxed skiing, thinking of the Reinosa Spain Championship of the next Saturday, making the sixth partial in the 4.5 km on the snow. After Jon, came Pello Osoro (Delteko Eibar Triatloi Taldea), a sub-23 that may have much to say in this modality in the future, and Sebastià Catllà (PC Bonavista), a veteran of the modality that continues to be maintained at the highest level . At the conclusion of the test, the three go on to lead the 2014 Spain Cup.

By teams, the Diablillos de Rivas Triathlon Club won the women's category (Anais Tommy, Rocío García Becerril, Lucía Escriña) and Trigoi TT (Jon Erguin, Eneko Dorronsoro, Iñigo Andreu) in the men's category. Al Trigoi would be followed by the organizing club team, Mayencos Brico-Jaca Triathlon (Miguel Lopez Allué, Nacho Ara, Luis Manzano), and Diablillos de Rivas (Oscar Lado, Jose Javier Marugan, Miguel Angel Casado).
