Javier Gómez Noya: "There has to be a time yet for me to realize what I have achieved"

Noya has managed to enter the select group of the best Spanish athletes in the history of sports

With the 2º placed at the end of the circuit in Chicago, Javier Gómez Noya it has been proclaimed for the fifth time triathlon world champion (the 1ª in 2008 when the format was to a single appointment, and in 2010, 13, 14 and 15 in scoring circuit format) which places him as the one who has done the most, leaving the British behind Simon Lessing who had achieved 4 times in 1992, 95, 96 and 98.

With this victory Gómez gets his tenth world title with 5 ITU victories, 1 Sub 23, 2 from IM 5150, 1 from X-Terra and 1 from IM 70.3

Therefore, it was not necessary to get the victory but it was enough to cross the finish line after the also Spanish Mario Mola, who in turn took the runner-up as in 2014.

Javier Gómez Noya declared upon reaching the goal: "I'm super happy, it takes a while for me to realize what I have achieved. I have felt very good throughout the triathlon. When I saw that it was already a heads up with Mario I was relieved because I knew I had the title secured, but of course I have given everything to win today.

It could not be and I congratulate Mario; I'm glad that if someone has won me, it's him; He has been very strong since the swim and he deserved it.

I have been competing under pressure for many years, and having the 5th world title at hand has not meant competing with that extra load; It's what I'm used to

Now it's time to relax and enjoy what has been achieved; and when I have recovered from the efforts of 2015 start the preparation for the Rio games, which is the big goal in 2016".
