Vicente Hernández and Uxío Abuín Top 10 at the Palamós Triathlon World Cup

The male elite of the Triathlon World Cup de Palamos started at noon this Sunday under a strong sun, which would be an additional obstacle to the triathletes, coupled with a very technical tour through the streets of the town of the Costa Brava. The Spanish Vicente Hernández 6th and Uxío Abuín 7º, they made a splendid performance by entering Together with them, Cesc Godoy achieved the 20ª plaza, placing three Spaniards in the Top-20

 

 

Mark  Buckingham won the victory with just two seconds ahead, on the Russian Dmitry Polyanskiy and three regarding the bronze medal, Yegor Martynenko.

 

After the 1.5 km of swimming with exit in the Platja Gran of Girona, the cyclist segment presented a large group of 26 triathletes in front of the race. After them, a pursuer group of 30 was located at 40 seconds, a distance that would be reduced to finally merge in the last laps of the sector.

 

In the absence of a return, Mark Buckingham, Ryan Fisher, Ben Kanute and Mattia Ceccarelli and Alberto Casadei escaped, getting an income of about 40 seconds over the rest. In this way, they started the 10 km run on foot. The British Buckingham would make the most of this flight leading the sector, until the Russian Dmitry Polyanskiy and the Ukrainian Yegor Martynenko accelerated the pace to advance positions to reach the last meters of the race in a tight fight for gold. In the end, Buckingham would rise with the victory with barely two seconds ahead, on the Russian Polyanskiy and three respect to the bronze medal, Martynenko.

 

Two of our young triathletes, the santacrucero Hernández (recent bronze medal in the past European Championship of Triathlon sub23) and the Galician Uxío Abuín have stood out in the section of race on foot. A sector in which both have achieved very good brands.

 

While Ricardo Hernandez occupied the 28º place and Iñaki Baldellou achieved the 52ª position.
