Camila Alonso proclaims champion Spain junior duathlon

Ferrolana Camila Alonso got up this morning with the title of Spain junior duathlon champion. The representative of the Ferrol Triathlon clearly won the Eagles competition in which Leticia Baña premiered her 2012 season with an 17º position. Previously, the cadets Inés Santiago and Pablo Pedrosa were ninth and 59º respectively.

In the junior category, Camila Alonso led the race from the first segment, getting on the bike with Laura Gómez and Judith Saizar. The woman from Ferrol saved her strength to prevail in the last kilometers of the race and came out of the second transition in first place. The 18-year-old triathlete increased the advantage with her pursuers until she crossed the finish line almost 20 seconds ahead of Laura Gómez. In this way, Camila Alonso achieved gold in her second junior year, after winning the silver medal last year as a debutant. For her part, Leticia Baña achieved 17th place even though it was her first competition of the year. Despite not having trained this preseason on foot due to discomfort in the intercostal, the Carballo triathlete was able to improve her result by coming back in the cycling segment.

As for the cadets, Inés Santiago became the seventh best Spanish with a ninth place in the general classification in which foreign triathletes are included. The member of the Ferrol Triathlon marked the best time by bicycle. In the men's category, Pablo Pedrosa finished in the 59º position after holding the rhythm in cycling but feeling problems in the twins in the final race.

The Spanish Duathlon Championship was played under a distance of 5 km of running, 20 km of cycling and 2,5 km of running, in the case of juniors, and 3 km, 10 km and 1,5 km in cadet category.

On Sunday it will be the turn of the U-23s Miriam Casillas, Tamara Gómez and Melina Alonso, as well as Eva Teijeiro in Age Groups.
