Lance Armstrong finishes Croix 70.3 in third place

Last Sunday Lance Armstrong competed in Croix's Ironman 70.3 in search of qualifying for Kona, where he dominated the cycling phase but finished in third place in this triathlon in the United States Virgin Islands.

 

Armstrong finished 3:37 behind winner Andy Potts, also an American. The 40-year-old Texan completed the 1,93-kilometer (1,2-mile) swim in 24:29 minutes. He led the pack in the 90-mile (56 km) bike race, opening up a nearly two-minute lead over Potts, but faded in the final event, a 21-mile (13 km) run. .

Potts won in 4:03,31 hours, followed by Frenchman Stephane Poulat. In the women's category, the winner was Canadian Angela Naeth, who set a course record with a time of 4:28,12 hours despite pedaling several final kilometers of the bike stage with a flat tire.
