Carmen Gómez, ninth in the JJ.OO. of the Youth of Nanjing

Everything was ready in Nanjing for the start of the women's triathlon in this second edition of the Youth Olympic Games. Held at the Spanish dawn of the 17 Sunday of August in the Chinese locality around the Xuanwu lake, the Spanish representative Carmen Gómez Cortés went through a very technical and wet circuit due to the rains prior to the start of the competition, making an outstanding acting, and entering the Top-10 classification.

 

 

The Spanish came out of the water after completing the 750 m swim by Xuanwu Lake in seventh position to 15 seconds of the leader, the Japanese Minami Kubono. After joining the front in the first of the four cycling laps in the sector, Gomez remained in the leading group consisting of Kubono, the Australian Brittany Dutton, the German Kristin Ranwig, the British Sian Rainsley and the Venezuelan Katherine Clemant Materano.

 

The six remained in the lead along the cycling segment technician, with an advantage of 20 seconds over a group chasing about ten triathletes. At the end of the last round, the group merged to enter the T2 jointly. Moments earlier, in the wake of the last lap, the Australian Dutton had launched an attack to escape solo, getting an income of about 20 seconds on the rest of his rivals.

 

With two laps to go in 2,5 km, Dutton consolidated his advantage to win the victory. After her marched the triathlete of the USA, Stephanie Jenks and the French Emilie Morier. Both would keep their positions in these 5 km of final foot race, to complete the podium in second and third position respectively.

For its part, the Spanish Carmen Gomez starred in a great race placing in the top positions and settling in the lead peloton during the cycling segment, to exit at 12ª position of the T2 and take a very good pace the remaining kilometers of running . Finally and after a very regular competition, the Galician obtained a remarkable ninth place.
