Chema Martínez finishes fifth in his Triathlon debut

The marathoner Chema Martínez was fifth in his debut with 4: 13: 35. He was one of the protagonists of an exciting sprint in the final straight in which he decided the third, fourth and fifth place for a single second.

This weekend, the Segovian town of Riaza has experienced two intense days in which 900 triathletes have been protagonists of Isostar Extreme Man Riaza. Just one hour from Madrid, the competition, which was held in the Short and Half modality, combined the beauty of the natural environment with the hardness of the route.

On Saturday, more than 500 athletes took the start in the Short without drafting. With 1.000 meters of swimming, 42 km of cycling and 10 km of running, the event crowned Ibai Alba as champion of this first edition in a time of 2: 03: 46. Behind, Luis Fernández Zapico (2: 05: 46) and Manuel Anta (2: 11: 17). In the female category, the triumph went to Sara García (2: 28: 35), behind Irene Montes (2: 30: 11) and Ana Caleya (2: 31: 22).

A very demanding half

On Sunday came the turn of the Half (1.900 m / 75 km / 20 km). With the same scenarios of the first day, the reservoir of Ríofrío, surrounded by mountains, hosted swimming, where the first was the Catalan Jordi Giménez with 50 seconds ahead. Soon there was a change at the head of the race, since in the 10 kilometer of cycling, which ran through a demanding route full of slides through the route of the Red Peoples, Iván Gil and José Manuel Montero managed to escape and begin to establish distances. In the second transition his advantage exceeded the 7 minutes and everything pointed to the victory would be a fight between them. However, in the first stretch of the race on foot, which toured the town of Riaza, Ivan Gil failed the forces and Montero was left alone until the finish line.

After the abandonment of Gil, José Manuel Montero was the winner in a time of 3: 58: 36 with more than 10 minutes of advantage over Mikel Otaegui (4: 09: 21). The third place was decided to sprint in an exciting final duel that ended with Carlos Enrique González in the third step of the podium with 4: 13: 34. Fourth Enrique de Castro, at the same time, and just a second later Chema Martínez (4: 13: 35), who scored an extraordinary partial on foot and entered the fight to be at the top.

In the female category, Belén García won in a comfortable way in 5: 01: 24. More of 13 minutes later Cristina Loring arrived, second, in a time of 5: 14: 43. Third Laia Gali, 5: 18: 22.
