ISOSTAR EXTREME MAN Salou triples registrations and achieves 1.300 participants in its third edition

More from 1.300 participants, the triple that the previous edition, will meet next Sunday 5 May in the international triathlon ISOSTAR EXTREME MAN which will host Salou for the third consecutive year. Organized by Win Sports Factory in collaboration with the City Council of the capital of the Costa Daurada, as well as Running Solutions as a local organizer, this sporting event was presented today by the mayor of the city, Pere Granados and by the Councilor for Sports, Felipe Ortiz, in addition to the general director of Win Sports Factory, Luis Genius and Jordi Xifra, Product Manager Isostar, main sponsor of the event.

The main novelty of this edition lies in the reduction to half of the route, with a total distance of 113 kilometers, a fact that has caused a spectacular increase in the number of registrants, going from 400 in 2012 to 1.300 this year; 300 of which are international athletes; mostly French and English.

The competition will start at 07: 30h on Levante beach, starting with the 1.900m. of swimming, followed by 90 km by bicycle and finally, a walking tour of 21 km. Two laps of a circuit of 10,5 km that will pass through the promenade where the first classified is expected to arrive between the 11: 30 - 12: 00 hours in the morning and not until the 15.00 h. when the last participant reaches the goal.

The mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, stressed that "Salou has made a very determined commitment to sport and this event perfectly combines the binomial we seek to de-seasonalize our city: on the one hand sports and on the other tourism because it is a great promotion for us". And it is that throughout this weekend about 3.500 people are expected to stay in Salou to experience the race in one way or another. 

For its part, Luis Gender, affirms that "we are facing a triathlon that from the first year has generated a very good image, with a spectacular route and where we will have the presence of great athletes", among them Frederick Van Lierde, first classified in the prestigious Abu Dhabi Triathlon , third place in the Hawaii Ironman and also first classified in the Extreme Man of Narbonne 2012; Raul Amatriain, champion of Spain in Medium Distance; Gurutze Frades, champion of Spain in Long Distance, Albert Moreno Champion of Spain of Duathlon for two consecutive years, among others such as the professional cyclist Sergi Escobar or the ex-cyclist Joseba Beloki who will participate in the relay format.

Jordi Xifra, Product Manager of Isostar, has highlighted "the firm commitment of the brand -with more than 35 years of experience- for triathlon, specifically with the Extreme Man circuit, where the needs at the hydration and nutrition level are key for the optimum performance of the athlete, "recalling that Isostar has a wide range of products that will cover the needs of the triathlete before, during and after the race.

Special traffic measures

On the other hand, to ensure safety in the area, the City Council will adopt a series of special measures that will affect the traffic of people and vehicles and that will be duly marked. For all these reasons, the City Council is asking for the collaboration of hoteliers and merchants as well as neighbors and we apologize for any inconvenience these measures may cause.

El Isostar Extrem Man Salou it will be the first of the sporting events that will later be moved to Getxo the 7 in July, to Narbonne the 8 in September, to finish in Menorca the 22 in September.
