Víctor del Corral and Azucena Lara win the Wine Run 2013

Festive day that has been lived this Sunday in the area of ​​La Geria, which has combined gastronomy, wine and sports. The fifth edition of the Wine Run & Traditional Cuisine Festival has gathered more than 1.600 runners, who have participated in the modalities of "running" (21,1 kilometers) and "trekking" (12,4 kilometers). The triathlete Víctor del Corral and Azucena Lara, fulfilled the forecasts, being the absolute winners of the Wine Run 2013. The winners received their weight in wine as a prize.

 

 

At the 09: 30 hours, together with Bodegas Los Bermejos, there was the start of the reign of the Wine Run 2013. The more than 400 runners that took the start in the category "running" had ahead a distance of 21,1 kilometers, being located the finish line in the town of Uga (Yaiza).

 

Most of the course of the test ran through the protected area of ​​La Geria, offering beautiful prints to the passage of the corridors along the roads and paths enabled for the occasion. One hour later, more than a thousand runners took the exit from the Testeina area in the form of "trekking", who had to face a route of 12,4 kilometers.

 

As usual, the Wine Run was a celebration of participation, fun and competition. Those who struggled to gain victory struggled to overcome the hardships of the journey, and those who did to spend a day with family and friends, did not hesitate to have fun, putting the image of the test amiable. At the refreshment points, in addition to the usual water and isotonic drinks, the runners could find a tasting of the best wines of Lanzarote.

 

In the men's category all predictions were met and triathlete Víctor del Corral dominated the test from beginning to end. With a strong rhythm in the first kilometers he selected the athletes who could face him in this race and those who distanced himself with the passage of kilometers.

 

Víctor del Corral crossed the finish line with a time of 1 hour, 15 minutes and 58 seconds. It surpassed in more than two minutes the second classified, since it corresponded to Lanzarote Francisco José García Viñoly (1: 18: 08), athlete who this season plays in the ranks of the Tenerife CajaCanarias team. The podium was completed with the third place of Majid Belouati (1: 24: 30). Juan Carlos Benasco (1: 25: 25) and Fernando Bas (1: 26: 00), completed the first five places in the Wine Run general standings.

 

Among the females, the absolute winner of the "running" modality was Azucena Lara. The runner completed the course of the 21,1 kilometers with a time of 1 hour and 44 minutes. The second place of the women's general was for Sabine Wittig (1: 45: 28) and the third place on the podium would be for Annalize Moss (1: 47: 73).

 

Among the participants of the Wine Run & Traditional Cuisine Festival were well-known faces from the political and social scene of Lanzarote. Among those who dared to walk the trails and roads of La Geria, were the president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Pedro San Ginés; the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín or the councilors of the Cabildo de Lanzarote Francisco Fabelo or Mónica Álvarez. Javier Betancort, president of the Regulatory Board and Denomination of Origin Wines of Lanzarote, was also among the participants of the Wine Run.

 

Once they reached the finish line, the participants found a great gastronomy festival in which the restaurants and wineries of Lanzarote participated. An area where they could taste the typical gastronomic products of Lanzarote with their family and friends, who filled the Traditional Cuisine Festival to the flag. Víctor del Corral and Azucena Lara, absolute winners of the Wine Run, received as a reward for its weight in liters of wine.
