The Tarmac 2015 bicycle is born. The merger of Specialized and McLaren

The new 2015 Tarmac is born from the collaboration between Specialized and McLaren

The new Tarmac 2015 from Specialized It represents a revolution in bicycle design that begins and ends with the cyclist. Called Rider-First Engineered ™, this new approach arises from the collaboration between Specialized and McLaren, leader in development in the 1 Formula. The result represents a breakthrough in every aspect of road cycling: acceleration, curves, and sprints in every frame size, from the 49 to the 64.

"The previous Tarmac have already experienced victories in both the Tour de Francia as in countless other races, but when we started to consider the new evolution we knew that the existing development approach would only provide gradual performance improvements, ”says Chris D'Aluisio, Specialized R&D. "We needed a new approach that didn't just result in lighter, stiffer bikes, but actually made them better."

Learning from McLaren's advanced testing program, Specialized has developed simulation models and pioneering dynamic testing protocols in the industry that have given engineers the ability to accurately interpret how different bike sizes respond to cyclists' forces. These data have enabled Specialized to develop frames that not only perform well in laboratory tests, but also take into account the most important element on a bike: the cyclist.

As a result of this new approach, Specialized engineers have been able to identify specific performance targets for each of the seven frame sizes. Once the objectives are established, each frame size is developed independently, including carbon laminates, tube shapes and specific steering bearings.

A picture size 49 cm Rider-First Engineered ™ it is handled as well as a table in 56 and one in 61. It is a measurable advantage that ensures full Tarmac performance - climbing, sprinting, and cornering - now available to everyone.

Alberto Contador, winner of the Three Grand Tours, commented: “Testing the new Tarmac on different types of climbs has shown that it is very fast, especially when you get up on the pedals. In descents it handles very well, it goes where you want. It gives the feeling of being unbeatable ”.

The 9 of 2014 May will present six models of this revolutionary Tarmac. Marking the benchmark of maximum performance, there will be a Tarmac S-Works + McLaren model that is in the final stages of development. As expected on a bicycle of this level, the Tarmac S-Works + McLaren will be manufactured in very limited quantities and will cost approximately three times more than the Tarmac S-Works. More details will be communicated when it is shown during the Tour de France 2014.
