An impressive volcanic landscape together with the natural beauty of La Geria, the region of protected vineyards of Lanzarote, are the backdrop for the event IRONMAN 70.3 Lanzarote, of the Club La Santa. The sixth edition of this iconic event will be held on Saturday 2 in September.

Traffic restrictions for sporting events have led to a last minute change in the competition route, as event director Kenneth Gasque explains:

"We would like to express our apologies to the participants for this last minute change of route. However, we are very excited about this new tour, as it will take athletes through the most beautiful landscapes of Lanzarote, including volcanic views and the Geria wine region. This is a circuit that favors athletes, as riders will be able to monitor the progress of their competitors throughout the circuit. It will be an extremely fast and exciting race with demanding ascents".

Maintaining its fame as the ideal Pre-Kona preparatory event, The IRONMAN 70.3 Lanzarote, from Club La Santa begins at 07.30:1.9 with a single lap swim (XNUMX km) in the club's lagoon. The new cycling circuit consists of two laps, one small and one longer. It begins with the ascent towards Soo, through Muñique, Tiagua and La Vegueta, passing by the first aid station at De Los Dolores church. This legendary monument was built in honor of the saint, Our Lady of the Virgin De Los Dolores, at the point where she allegedly stopped the flow of lava during volcanic eruptions in the XNUMXth century.

Our athletes will find a steep slope in Tinguatón, then they will pass through the mesmerizing lava fields of Los Volcanes National Park. A right turn onto the wine route will have them pass near the second first aid station at Bodegas Rubicón, then face more ascents as they approach the turning point at Uga. The circuit takes them back to Club La Santa, where they will return to Dolores using the same route. The church will serve this time as the second turning point, sending the athletes back to the Club La Santa stadium in T2.

The rest of the marathon route remains unchanged until the fishing village of La Santa, where it will end with the clamor of the spectators at the Club La Santa stadium.

The Spanish middle distance champion 2015, Emilio Aguayo, makes his IRONMAN mid-distance debut in Lanzarote, after an excellent season so far and may be among the favorites.

The winner of the IRONMAN Lanzarote 2017, Lucy Charles (GBR) is a favorite for this twin event, creating a stir since turning pro just last year. Making competition will be Alexandra tondeur (BEL), Jenny schultz (DEN), Anne Haug (GER) and the best Spanish athlete in this specialty, Anna Noguera, who already has many national victories in his record this season.
