Thanks to having achieved the world title of Half Ironman in 2017, Galician has a guaranteed place in the Ironman of Hawaii of 2018

After twenty years doing triathlons (he started in 1998 with 15 years of age) and more than fifteen achieving international successes (already in 2002 he was European Junior Duathlon Champion and in 2003 of the Sub23 Triathlon World) Javier Gómez Noya finally is going to premiere in an Ironman distance triathlon: 3,8 km of swimming, 180 of cycling and 42 on foot. It will be in Cairns (Northeast Australia) on Sunday 10 in June.

Thanks to having achieved the Half Ironman world title in 2017, the Galician has a guaranteed place in the Hawaii Ironman 2018 without having to earn points in other tests of the Ironman franchise as indicated by the regulations for the Professional category.

That is why he has been able plan your workouts in order to be in the best possible shape in October, setting aside the Sprint and Olympic distance triathlons for the first time since being in the world elite.

In 2018 has competed (and won) in three medium distance triathlons (New Zealand February, Cannes April and Barcelona May) but before the big date of Hawaii in October the logical thing is to face a long distance triathlon and the chosen one has been Cairns . There is now the end of autumn and the temperature and humidity conditions may resemble those of Hawaii, with some 25 degrees during the day. There are four months between the two tests, hence he can recover well from the first and will be able to face a new training phase for October.

Among the participants in the Professional round may not be any of the current favorites for Hawaii, but there will be enough good enough for Gomez Noya to know the pace at which to go to shine at this distance. With many already measured both in Olympic distance and in Half Ironman and there are some that have already achieved great results in Ironman: Terenzo Bozzone, Tim O'Donnell, Tim Van Berkel, Tim Reed, Branden Currie o Luke McKenzie.

But obviously Javier is the great attraction and it can be said that the whole triathlon world will be very aware of its performanceWhich can be followed through the website ironmalive.com.

But the result itself is not the main thing on Sunday but to know the sensations in such a long competition, especially in the marathon phase: "Being my first Ironman I can not set a specific goal. I have trained a lot and I hope to do well, but it is a mystery because I am going to leave my comfort zone, the distances that I dominate after so many years competing. I will try to go very concentrated, avoiding mistakes with the rhythm or the refreshments. I am like any other debutante, with the desire to do it well at the same time as with some concern before feelings that I do not know".

The start will be at the 7: 30 on the local Sunday morning, 11.30 on Saturday night in Central Europe. PIt can be followed through the web ironmalive.com.

The swimming phase is a single round, on a round trip parallel to the coast. The 180km of cycling present little unevenness (the highest point is 60m over the sea, Javier would have preferred it not to be so flat), in a twice-round format, with the second transition a few kilometers separated from the first one. And the marathon is three laps 14km, totally flat, also with long straights in which when you go crossing with others you have visual references.

There are no previous results.
