A Kona Champion in Age Groups sanctioned 14 months for doping in IRONMAN

IRONMAN today published a new positive case of doping

The sanctioned triathlete is German in age groups Chris dels who has accepted a 14 month penalty for a violation of anti-doping rules (ADRV)

The German Dels, 36, achieved victory in his 35-39 age group with a time of 8:44:12, finishing before many professionals

This penalty has been imposed for receiving a intravenous infusion which is classified as a Prohibited Method under IRONMAN Anti-Doping.

The athlete I was sick when he received the transfusion, accepted the sanction and collaborated at all times in the investigation

This happened while the athlete was in the United States training and preparing to compete at IRONMAN Texas in 2019

They suspected him for a social media post

The IRONMAN anti-doping program initiated an investigation after receiving a report in October 2019 where an athlete's publication was found on social networks citing that he had received intravenous infusions after an illness.

Dels quickly admitted this treatment, cooperated fully with the investigation of the IRONMAN anti-doping program and accepted the sanction and its responsibility for the unintentional ADRV.

Suspended 14 months and annulled all your results

With the sanction all competitive results have been annulled, including the IRONMAN Texas 2019 and the title achieved in the IRONMAN Kona 2019.

In addition, you will no longer have an automatic qualification position for Kona 2020

The 14 month sanction period of Dels dates back to April 20, 2019, the date he received the intravenous infusion. Dels will be able to compete again on June 20, 2020.
