Looking for a star: Cecilia Santamaría

Cecilia is an "outsider" from Madrid in the CAR of Madrid who is also looking for her dream in the world of triathlon, being the best, being the champion of Spain and how everyone is in a JJ.OO.

The "thermometer" on Facebook tells me how it moves through the world of social networks, 656 has "friends" and of which we share 139, there are not many ...

She is a very open girl and you can talk and talk with her about triathlon all you want, she has "sucked" the sport since she was little and has lived the triathlon since she was born, I remember her since she was very little, encouraging her father Carlos Santamaría, He was international and champion of Spain Triathlon and little cries hit the girl.

She has completed 18 years in February and studies 2º in high school, studying as she says "here in the Blume".

TN- How did you start in the world of sports, what memories do you have of those first moments?

CS- I have always played sports, my father went triathlon and he took us to the Canoe to swim and that's how my sister and I started swimming. We have always had a very sporting life. Sometimes we did some triathlon competition to go swimming and I liked it a lot and in the end I ended up training triathlon.

TN- You were on the Real Canoe NC swim team. What tests did you do, which tests were the best?

CS- Since I was four years old, I was already swimming there and I joined the team when I was about ten years old. I was an espaldista and towards 400 meters styles in Spanish championships and the truth is that I did not have such good results, (laughs), it was always quite behind.

TN- And besides swimming and triathlon, what other sports do you like?

CS- I have always liked climbing and mountaineering and I also love skiing, although the truth is that I like almost all sports.

Cecilia Santamaría

TN- Do you like skiing? Maybe one day we'll see you doing a winter triathlon.

CS- Yes, well, I would like

TN- And really when was it when you started in a "serious" way to do triathlon?

CS- Since I was a little girl I was already serious but seriously I have been training and competing for three years and I want to be in front of me. The truth is that my first triathlon ... I do not remember.

TN- Now here in the CAR the work and training plan is hard, you have to train everyone, the days, all the weeks ...

CS- We usually train about four and a half hours a day and it is quite hard because you also have to combine it with studies and these are up to date. We usually do swimming in the afternoon and race or bike in the morning. That daily, except the Thursday we have in the afternoon free.

TN- And training triathlon which is what you like the most and least?

CS- I love doing long running shoots, especially by El Pardo and that area and I do not like speed in swimming, I like it a little.

Cecilia Santamaría

TN- Do you have time for leisure, what do you do in addition to all this curriculum and training?

CS- Normally the free day if I have an exam I take the opportunity to study and if I do not try to have dinner with my friends or have a snack with someone, good to go out there a little.

TN- Just that? Do not you like to do other things outside of triathlon?

CS- I like to paint in oil and read, I do not like television, for example.

TN- In your head like most athletes are the Olympic Games?

CS- I would very much like to participate in some Games and I am training to see if one day I can get there. We'll see what happens.

TN- Do you see that possibility very close or very far?

CS- I do not know everything depends on how things go, I would like to possibly go to the 2.020 or when possible, maybe the 2024.

TN- But do not you see that there are many years left, are you going to endure this life of training and competition?

CS- The truth is that I enjoy doing this and if you have good companions with whom you have a good time training, it is fun and you can live happily every day.

TN- You are external, you go to sleep at home every day, would not you also like to live here?

CS- Well, I've thought about it many times, at first I thought it would not be profitable, but the truth is that I see it better since I, from my house here, lose an hour to come, I'll have to consider it.

TN- This weekend we can say that your season started at the Quarteira Triathlon in Portugal. We see you with a few wounds, what happened to you?

CS- Well, I was in Quarteira in the Junior European Cup, the thing started well as I went out in front of the water and placed myself in the first group, although we were very poorly organized, there were many very young girls and we were unable to organize well. Last year there were older girls with more level and it showed a lot. A girl made the sharpener and went to the ground and I went behind her, I could continue ... with bruises and at the end thanks to the support of my colleagues who were encouraging me a lot I could end up in the 20º position and if I'm happy.

TN- Well 2015 started with that test and let's hope that bad luck has passed. What are your goals for this year?

CS- I hope to do the test in Melilla and get the place for the European, although it is very difficult since we are fighting many girls for it, but I will try. In addition to the European, it means going to the world championship and I also want to do the duathlon world championships here in Alcobendas and of course win the Spanish championship and always be ahead.

Cecilia Santamaría

TN- Of all the tests you have participated in, which one did you like the most?

CS- The Quarteira test I loved, is the test that I like the most.

TN- And in your head you do not think about a test that you have to do some day?

CS- I would like to do a winter triathlon and do an Olympic distance triathlon as soon as possible. And surely one day I would like to try Zarautz.

TN- Next year you'll have to decide what to study ...

CS- I would like to do something artistic, Fine Arts, architecture or if I do not design or something to throw around.

TN- So in a few years you would like to work as ...

CS- In something related to that, some creativity, design ...

TN- And if we talk about your father. He was the Champion of Spain and I "injected" you in this vein of triathlon. From small you went to the triathlons I remember ...

CS- I remember seeing my father when it was still quite good, although his knees were already starting to hurt a lot, but we always went to the races and I liked the fun atmosphere and I spent all my time cheering my father.

TN- And what does he think of all this?

CS- I think he's excited that we follow in his footsteps as well and the four of us (including mother and sister) really enjoy the forest, giving walks my father likes.

TN- And your mother who thinks?

CS- Sometimes he gets a little overwhelmed, but he loves it, even if he sometimes says no. Every time he is getting more involved in triathlon since he wants to compete and is training, so the four of us are there at the top.

TN- You know that I always say and without belittling that your little sister is going to be the best Spanish with time. What do you think of her?

CS- My sister has a lot of control over her bike and to do it very well when she's going to compete out there. It is his first year in championships in Spain and have such a come out.

TN- Do you think that one day you will win?

CS- (laughs and tells me), Maybe, who knows ...

TN- What help do you have, does someone give you material or other support?

CS- Yes, I get Pearl Izumi clothing and the Stevens bike that works with Macario. I am very happy with them and I thank them for their support.

A very nice meeting that is coming to an end and Cecilia before saying goodbye because she has to go for a run, she had previously swum a few meters after the weekend weekend, including trip, she says:

"I thank everyone who supports me on a daily basis and I need those people and know that they are supporting me. Of course to my family "

TN- Who do you look like more, your father or your mother?

CS- I could not tell you, they say that physically I look like my mother, but part of my father in the physical plane I have inherited.

TN- Of boyfriends, we do not even talk?

CS- (Be part laugh) no, no, no better no.

It has been a pleasure to interview this "girl" I've known since ... sure that with her attitude she will always be among the best. Good luck in the 2015.

There are no previous results.
