Looking for a star: Javier Romo Oliver

This week in "Looking for a star" comes the turn of a new triathlon promise, Javier Romo.

Javier Romo is another resident of the CAR of Madrid who lives intensely this moment that he has lived and enjoyed and would not change for anything. It is the fourth cadet that we had to interview after Ana Carvajal, Jesus del Val and Javier Lluch and the youngest, only 16 years, and he has these two seasons in that category because he is also lucky to have been born in January. In other words, within a year it will be the "biggest" of the cadets who will prepare themselves!

As the others are involved in social networks but have little attention, to see my "relationship" with Javier I could see on his Facebook that 320 has "friends" of which only 32 shares with me.

It is Villafranca de los Caballeros (Toledo) and as their colleagues David Castro and Antonio Benito would say, the three are part of the "spot power"

TN- Do you have memories of your beginnings in the world of sports, how were they?

JR- I was running in a block of my neighborhood, they set up a club in my town and with 5 or 6 years I was going to run. My brother started swimming and I started to go but he did not attract much attention either. When I went swimming there was a track next to it and I told my mother that I wanted to go for a run, it called my attention more.

I went to the pool for classes and did not take it with interest, my brother and I were behind. We went to Alcázar de San Juan.

TN- And then one day you want to do triathlon ...

JR- I did swimming and athletics separately and they organized a aquatlon in Alcázar de San Juan and a triathlon coach from Tomelloso, the same one who trained Antonio Benito, whose name is Jose Ramón put me in the club there and already the year Past started training me.

TN- But this year you have changed clubs ...

JR- If I went to the Albacete Triathlon Club. There I have a friend, Álvaro Lopez and he told me to go to his club and especially not to go alone to the competitions because in Tomelloso there was no one of my age. At least they help me in what are championships in Spain and little else, but something is something.

TN- What was your first triathlon?

JR- My first triathlon was an autonomous children's championship and I liked it. I also went with a mountain bike, everyone was riding their road bikes and I was second, from that day on I was clear about it.

TN- And how does the adventure of coming to Madrid to train arise?

JR- Last year I came to the technification concentration because I had been first in the times and they told me that I could apply for a scholarship to come. In my town I had many difficulties, I had no facilities, I ran on a dirt road, the pool to 40 km from my house, the coach saw him from time to time, every two months and without anyone who controls you too well trained.

TN- And when you said at home that you were going to live in Madrid to train, what did your parents say?

JR- Send the request for scholarship request here and in Murcia, since I did not have good results in the Spanish championship, because I was 8º, so my results were not good, but they have trusted me and here I am.

TN- And how are you here?

JR- This is the best year of my life and in my house they are very happy.

TN- What are your goals for the 2015?

JR- I have clear that I want to go to each competition to win. I do not want to go out to be second.

TN- The other cadets that are here Javier and Jesus will be your main rivals?

JR- Well yes and Alberto Gonzalez from Málaga who won it all last year.

TN- Next weekend you're going to an international event ...

JR- If it's my first international test in Quarteira, I'm going with hope and without nerves or anything.

TN- That's why you cut your hair to "cheroky" those who go to Quarteira?

JR- Hahaha surely occurred to David Castro ...

TN- You have not yet been given any nickname? , thats weird.

JR-hahaha not yet not, they get with my ankles, they tell me that I have fat.

TN- And the Power Spot?

JR- Well, David Castro is the leader and the "melon", well, Antonio Benito, if not, David is the boss and I am the third.

TN- I suppose you're already thinking about studying in a couple of years when you finish high school?

JR- I go course to course, maybe in two years I can change a lot in my tastes, I do not like to think long term, nor in triathlon either.

TN- So you do not think about that future of possible Olympic Games there for the year ...?

JR- No, someday I've thought about it but it's not something that has gotten into my head. I'm training and I do my best and only with that will it be seen.

TN- And if we were talking about JJ.OO for what year do you think ...

JR- For the 2024 the rest is too close.

TN- But you are not afraid to stay here for so many years, training all day, practically without free time ... betting on it?

JR- Yes, I trained I have a better time than many times when I go out with my friends for a walk.

TN- In addition to training, training, training ... and sometimes studying, what else would you like to do?

JR- I study what is necessary, I do not like TV, I'm fine like that.

TN- What help do you have to do triathlon?

JR- The only ones, those of my parents

TN- Do you think that the possible sponsors, still do not know you and therefore do not bet on you?

JR- If I believe that people do not know us that much, we are not very mediatic in social networks and it is important.

TN- You know there are not very good triathletes who receive support for being active in social networks

JR- Well that's unfair ...

Javier is already nervous and he has little else or wants to tell us, he has to go swimming, he also has to put on his neoprene, because next weekend he will wear it in Quarteira.

He is very grateful to his father and mother and of course to his brother. In the CAR he is delighted, he lives and enjoys every minute and we do not want to entertain him anymore, we want him to continue taking advantage of every second of this intense life around the triathlon he has.

Soon we will see great results because his few years have to add those 1,80 that make a future triathlete that could be "the star we seek."
