Looking for a star: Lucía Vergara Sevillano

This week Felipe Gutiérrez interviews a new promise of triathlon : Lucia Vergara Sevillano.

 

 

Interestingly we agree on the CAR of Madrid, since Lucia is one of the triathletes who trains there all year round and as Holy Week came and she had vacations and I was going to my land I proposed to have the interview on the day of the Duathlon of Gijón, there on Poniente Beach , so we would both be enjoying our land.

After finishing the Duathlon he came with his parents and we talked about his present and of course the future without forgetting where he comes from.

Lucia is a good swimmer of 17 years and until November she will not be "of age", she went in the last three years to the concentration of the National Triathlon Sport Technification Program. Currently it is Cidade de Lugo Fluvial club and is overcoming some injuries based on the work of the Bodoque physiotherapist who is making her come out of the navel of the scaphoid rupture and the hard work of strengthening the ankles.

Little by little and with a technical work on the bicycle is getting updated, we will soon see her fighting for the top positions.

TN- How is it that you are in the CAR of Madrid?

LV- I was swimming here in Gijón at the Santa Olaya Swimming Club and on my own I also ran, until one day my coach told me I had to try triathlon. Then I made an aquathlon and I won it and from there I got hooked.

TN- From there to send the scholarship application

LV- My coach encouraged me to do it, besides I was third in a Spanish aquathlon championship and ...

TN- Before you had not run any triathlon?

LV- I had never trained triathlon seriously, I never ran and swam.

TN- What were your swimming tests?

LV- For 800 meters, 200 meters butterfly, 100 butterfly meters and minimum for the one in Spain.

TN- How do you start in the world of sports, what memories do you have when you were little?

LV- From six or seven years old I started swimming, in the courses, because after class my grandmother always took me to swim.

TN- Have you always been to the Santa Olaya NPP? Who did you train with?

LV- If always, first trained with Josin, then with Pablo Saavedra and now with Pepín Rivera.

TN- Are you still competing with them?

LV- I got my license, but I still have not competed with them.

TN- Out of curiosity, how is it that you are in a Galician club in triathlon?

LV- I went to the times and they offered to go to the club, at that time I did not have the first one who told me ...

TN- But here you have a club, in Gijón with the initials of the CNSO

LV- Hahaha laughs, now, but hey, Lucia tells us.

TN- How have you been in the CAR, is a very hard site, right?

LV- At first it was difficult for me to adapt, I had problems with my ankles and sprains and then one day on a mountain bike I fell and broke my scaphoid and I was with plaster ..., now I'm getting back to training well.

 

 

TN- And how about working on the bike, are you training well?

LV- Yes, how I get to how I am now I have improved a lot, but I still have.

TN- I suppose that the work of Bodoque the physiotherapist with you has been important, right?

LV- Yes, every day we do ankles, wrist work and very well, it shows a lot.

TN- And do not you feel like starting with triathlon? When do you plan to return?

LV- I hope to run in Soria next weekend, in duathlon and maybe to the European Cup in Melilla in two weeks.

TN- Is it true that you want to study veterinary medicine?

LV- I'm in second year of baccalaureate and I also like nursing or some nutrition now, I have several options there, since I came to the Blume I changed some ideas.

TN- When do you get the scholarship in Madrid, what do your parents think?

LV- They have supported me a lot, from the moment of presenting it.

TN- And what time are you in Madrid they think?

LV- They miss me a lot and I also miss them.

TN- Do you come a lot to Asturias?

LV- When they let us come, once a month more or less.

TN- What are your goals in this 2015?

LV- My main objective is to improve little by little, I'm not going to consider now winning the Spanish Championship because with injuries it is almost impossible, so I will try to do the best I can in each competition.

TN- Do you look forward to being able to continue many more years in the Blume?

LV- I for my yes.

TN- And how do you see about going to some JJOO?

LV- Every athlete dreams of going to the Games one day, maybe in the 2024 who knows.

TN- I guess daily training is hard, what do you usually do?

LV- I have the same plan as everyone, first the classes after training and / or bike in the morning, we eat and in the afternoon swimming.

TN- And in the short time you have free, what do you do?

LV- Well, almost always studying or sleeping, it does not give time to anything else.

TN- Now that you are at home in Asturias, these days, what are you doing?

LV- Above all disconnect, I go with my friends and disconnect a bit

TN- I suppose that since you are new little economic supports or of material you will have?

LV- No, I do not have anything.

TN- But have you asked someone, or do not you dare yet?

LV- No, I have not asked, as you well say I do not dare yet.

TN- Who would you like to thank for being able to be in this mess of training in Madrid?

LV- I would like to thank you for being involved in this especially my parents who have always supported me and my coach Pepín Rivera.

 

 

TN- But what do they think, I do not think they are so calm having you in Madrid?

LV- At the beginning it has been difficult for me to go to Madrid, over my brother three years ago he also went to study there. At first it has cost them but they are used to it.

TN- And do you see your brother there in Madrid?

LV- No, I never see him

 

For Lucia Madrid, it is a hope in the world of sports. Little by little it is improving and soon it will be disputing the first squares of the tests.

We were talking at the Poniente de Gijón Beach and we even took some pictures with their parents that these days enjoy "the girl" intensely, they will soon have to say goodbye to her again, the athlete's life is still between the training and the studies far from your land.
